I cant get system properties by any method

Hiya,

I cant get system properties up by any method, (I.E right clicking on my computer and selecting properties).  This means I cant get to see any of the computer properties or system restore properties.  I have done malware and virus checks and they have come back clear.  Please Help

    Like I said in my previous post, if you are resigned to a clean install anyway it's a free hit. The same applies if you are resigned to a new PC. What have you got to lose by trying a SP3 install?

    Got a feeling it looks like I need to upgrade to a newer pc, although I am now intrigued to find out what as caused this problem.

    I really do appreciate all of the time and effort you have put into trying to solve this problem.

    …you can ignore the text that says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text advising Windows/Microsoft Update if only updating one PC. Ignore any recommendation from Microsoft to use Windows Updates.

    Then run the download to (re-)install SP3.

    I am getting desperate with a customer's PC at the moment and they don't have a listing for SP3 in "Add or Remove Programs" either, neither do they have the c:\windows$NtServicePackUninstall$ folder. The PC has nonetheless let me do a SP3 installation. This is perhaps not quite as good as uninstalling SP3 first but may just solve the problem. If you are resigned to a clean install anyway it's a free hit.

    It didn't solve my customer's problem (though it hasn't seemed to make matters worse) but it might solve yours.

    Yeah I knew he had done chkdsk before but this profile thing, which has happened since then, made me think it needed to be done again.

    I agree with the clean installation and new hard drive with one proviso...

    @philfoster01:

    You should weigh any expenditure on hardware against the cost of a new PC and bear in mind that a new PC is going to be advisable anyway in less than a year given that XP goes end of life in April 2014. Also, labour costs should be factored in if you want the drive professionally installed and/or the clean installation.

    Tricky, see page 4, checkdisk ran twice, no errors, bad blocks did not increase, but stayed the same, I included a quote from gerry about this to op, but in the thread he started at bleeping computers:

    his disk is 10 yrs old and last installation was 2006, I really believe op should do a clean install on a new drive. :)
