Touch screen not working for Asus laptop

I reinstalled Windows 10 and had this issue.  Here's what an ASUS rep told me to do and after trying everything on the internet (troubleshoot hardware issues, windows update, see hidden contents in device manager), the following solution was the only one that worked:

Please do the following steps to Reset the BIOS: 

Step 1: Please turn off the unit completely.

Step 2: Please turn the unit on and quickly press the F2 key on the keyboard to enter the BIOS.

Step 3: Please press the F9 key in the BIOS to load optimized defaults and select yes to confirm. 

Step 4: Please press the F10 key to save and exit.

If those steps fails, attempt a System Reset:

Please do the following steps to Reset the system: 

Step 1: Please press the WINDOWS key and the letter I.

Step 2: Please select Settings.

Step 3: Please select Update and Security then Recovery and select "Reset the PC".

Step 4: Select okay and allow the Reset process to run. 

You will have to keep the unit plugged in during the process. You will select the options to 'Remove everything', 'Only the drive where Windows is installed', and 'Just remove my files' if prompted.

Ensure that all data is backed up.

I chose the "keep my files" options but remove all apps.  This reloaded everything and the only thing I had to add was Asus Smart Gestures for touch pad scrolling.

I had this issue with my VivoBook S400CA touch screen and fixed it today doing the following:

1. Go to the Control Panel.
2. Go to Troubleshooting (you may have to search for it)
3. Click Hardware and Sound
4. In the Device section, click Hardware and Devices
5. Have the wizard scan your computer for hardware issues.
6. Let the computer fix whatever issues you had.

In my case there were 2 USB input devices that were disabled that the wizard enabled for me.  The touchscreen immediately started working.  Hope this helps someone.

UPDATE:

The problem used to come back periodically.  But since updating all of my drivers a while back, the problem has not resurfaced.

Mine is exactly the same (2USB). I followed the steps above and it fixed the issue.

There are 2 issues in play here, both easily remedied.

Go to Device Manager

Open Human Interface Devices

Click arrow to expand, look for HID-compliant touch screen

Open HID-compliant touch screen & click on update driver

Now click on Scan for hardware changes

Almost done!

Now right click on every entry under HID-compliant devices, click on Properties

Look for a Power Management tab

If Power tab exists click on it & uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

That setting is what causes ASUS Zenbooks to lose their touchscreens!
