No audio during playback in Movie Maker

I am finding a problem with my Windows Movie Maker, I have run my videos through Media player and Am certain the sound is just fine there, but when I put it on movie maker, No audio at all no game sounds or talking from me. Please any fix to this would be greatly appreciated.

This works for me in Windows 8.1 to fix this:

type "services" in the Windows search box

From the list of services, choose Windows Audio

Stop the service, then

Start the service

Sound now plays in Movie Maker.

    I've found a solution not listed here.

    If you look in your apps on your computer, there is one called "DTS Sound". When you open it, it has an option to choose internal, headphones or external (shown with three different icons).

    You can either:

    1. Choose internal ie the computer looking icon, or
    2. Switch DTS Sound to OFF (click on the icon on the left that looks like a power button, when you click on to OFF, everything turns grey).

    For some reason, when DTS Sound is on, or set to something other than internal, the sound for my Movie Maker doesn't work. But as soon as it is off, it works perfectly. Sometimes my computer switches to headphones automatically, I don't know why!

    Only just found this out today, hope this helps!

    Another "solution":

    right-click on a blank spot  of the task bar > Start Task Manager > Services tab > sort by name > AudioSrv (Windows Audio) > right click on it and select RESTART.  Takes about 10 sec.

    Unfortunately you have to do this every time you start a project or reload.  It's a workaround for an obvious bug in WMM.

    Hi, Richard:

    None of these suggestions do the trick.

    Firstly, I have the newest WMM.

    Secondly, I have tried importing the file as both an .mp4 and a .wmv, both of which are allegedly supported by WMM.

    Third,  tried the fixit tool and was told by your web site that my operating system didn't support it -- even though I've got the most recent update of 8.1 installed.

    Fourth, I followed another poster's advice and downloaded a codec pack, but that didn't help.

    Next, I downloaded and installed MediaInfo, but then I couldn't find it anywhere on my computer and therefore couldn't run it (thanks, Windows 8! You're useless!)

    The bottom line is, I have a perfectly good video file which, when imported into WMM suddenly has no audio (despite SHOWING audio in the waveform), and when edited and saved as a movie, ALSO has no audio.

    So, what gives? And what's the real fix?
