ISO image mounting problems under Windows 8 Pro

Whenever I try to mount ISO with the inbuilt mounting of Windows 8 Pro it returns 'Couldn't mount  file' 'Sorry there was a problem mounting the file' or 'The disc image file is corrupted'.

In some instances the file gets mounted nevertheless, but to discover it, I have to look at Computer where all drives are shown.

In either instances, whenever I drop an ISO, which contains audio from SACD or other media, in J River Media Center's 'Playing Now' field, it shows every single track of the disc image file and plays them nicely. So it does, even when burnt onto a DVD+R So, obviously, the ISOs are healthy and the problem should with Windows...

I would be glad to hear from you on the matter.

The file needs to be renamed to .exe on the Microsoft site.  It's an executable, not an ISO

(Visio 2013 64 bit English)

ok guys, I FOUND THE SOLUTION by accident.

Here is how to fix the problem (at least it worked right away when i did it, so try it!)

RIGHT-CLICK the image file in question (.IMG, .ISO, etc...) and choose a default program to open with. WIndows ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE the DEFAULT program to open image files. There is a unreported bug about Windows 8 explorer not being the default , therein not opening a valid, uncorrupted image file.  YOU MUST set Windows Explorer as the default in order to mount image files as a virtual DVD drive in WIndows 8.

Here what I did, eject SD card (you don't have to take it out of the computer).  Try to mount again.  I did this and it worked perfectly.

    H i everyone.. i think i have just managed to install Microsoft office 2013 professional plus -- i was having problem with the download ISO file saying that it wasn't able to be mounted. i was reading around on loads of forums with people having the same problem but ending up in a dead end.. so i was messing about with the icon and the properties to see what other program i could open it with and one was suggesting on windows 8  though there store was zip programs.. what made me think why would it suggest a zip program when it was ment to be a ISO file so i went back and changed that iso to open with winrar and then i unzipped all the files into a folder and then ran the setup and it worked and finished installing. i hope people get it to work like i did and if so spread the word people.. we have to let everyone know =D

    What everybody sees is that he ISO images for Visio and Project 2013 on the MS Partner download page give an error "The disc image file is corrupted", However the Office 2013 file from the same site is OK. This would suggest the problem is with the ISO files, not the users PCs.

    Hello! It does me good to hear from you.

    I have no third party mounting application, but I used to.

    SFC /scannow has found no integrity violations.

    It opens some iso files, some doesn't.

    I understand that you are getting error messages 'Sorry there was a problem mounting the file' or 'The disc image file is corrupted' while mounting ISO image in Windows 8.

    I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you with this.

    1.      Have you installed any third party application to mount the ISO image?

    Please follow the methods.

    Method 1:

    ****Run a system file checker scan and check if that helps. Refer the following steps to run SFC scan.

    a)            Move the mouse pointer to bottom left of the screen where you see preview of start menu and Right-click to bring up a list of Windows settings.

    b)            Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt. Note: Click ‘Yes’ if it prompts for permission.

    Method 2:

    Please Uninstall if you have installed any third party application to mount the ISO image

    a.      Press Windows Key + W

    b.      In the search box, type programs and features

    c.       Click on programs and features

    d.      Right on the applications you want to uninstall and click on uninstall.

    e.      Restart the computer.
