Weather gadget not working- Cannot connect to service

Microsoft has DISABLED the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. You can read more about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662 . Adjusting your computer's settings and all these other "suggestions" people are making, will NOT work. The function has been REMOVED from the operating system. It has also been removed from the Windows 8 operating system. There are "theorists" that either agree that there is a security issue within the gadgets or Microsoft just does not want to support gadgets (usually third party software) and thus, has disabled them in Windows 7 and eliminated them in Windows 8.

Utter rubbish...the function has NOT  been removed and the suggestion made by sting does work as i have just performed them on 18/2/2015 and hey presto my weather gadget is now working...please do  NOT feed people false information and anyone who has this problem...if you follow sting251's instructions properly then you too will have a working gadget...what annoys me is the false information people supply just to get some attention. Microsoft has NOT STOPPED supporting his gadget and it HAS NOT BEEN TURNED OFF...KOUSIK IS WRONG and if you follow his advice then more fool you....stings instructions worked although his paths to the folders were not quite as accurate as i would have liked but after a little searching i found the files he was talking about on another machine....laptop i5....and those files worked on my desktop i7

It wasnt working, caused by a change by Microsoft, I call that disabled. Just because we(Sting) figured out a simple solution doesnt mean the original problem is fixed. The original problem is that it is vulnerable to outside attack and us turning it back on makes us all vulnerable to the original problem. Microsoft didnt fix the "problem" they just turned the feature off instead. And the sidebar gadgets feature hasnt been supported for a while now, thats why they did not fix it and just turned it off instead. If they were still supporting it they would have fixed the problem instead. The sidebar gadgets doesnt come with windows 8 and it will not be included in any future versions of windows. Yes we all still have it but the reason they didnt fix it is because they dont support it. Thats why WE had to figure out how to turn it back on if we still want to use it. Be glad they chose a simple disabling mechanism so we could work around it, they could have chosen a more drastic approach and it would never work, no matter what you did.

the weather gadget is NOT  disabled lol....mine was having trouble connecting to service and I followed stings advice and now it is...so many are saying its been disabled and this is simply not true...I had it working on a laptop but it couldn't connect to the service on the desktop...I did the steps and within seconds it was working

Actually it was disabled, why do you think it wasnt working? lol The problem was it couldnt connect which is what you want if it is something that is vulnerable. The "connecting" part is what makes you vulnerable so they turned that part off. Whatever part of the program that is accessible to an attack is still there, they didnt fix that, they just turned it off instead.

Did you know if you never connect a computer to the internet you'll never get a virus?

Their solution was just to disable the program so it couldnt connect, thus stopping the ability to access it. It was still installed and capable of functioning, they just turned the light off :)
