Update:

Microsoft has DISABLED the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. You can read more about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662 . Adjusting your computer's settings and all these other "suggestions" people are making, will NOT work. The function has been REMOVED from the operating system. It has also been removed from the Windows 8 operating system. There are "theorists" that either agree that there is a security issue within the gadgets or Microsoft just does not want to support gadgets (usually third party software) and thus, has disabled them in Windows 7 and eliminated them in Windows 8.

Thanks to DaveNYC for the Info. Spread the word because many people are facing this problem just like you.

To all having this problem, the following worked for me:

After eading all kind of solutions, I changed the config.xml file according instructions and then I got connected but only to my own location (in my case Amsterdam). Tried everything else, no results, till I only give the exact zip code for the place I like to see the weather in the search menu and guess it worked, then I did the same on my computer in Greece (via teamviewer) and there it worked as well.

I hope it will help you as good as it did for me.

Ron

Does this also apply to Windows 10's weather, candy game, and news?

I know this is a post 3 years "after the fact" but do you know if this fix will work for Windows10? I have another W10 PC where the weather gadgets work fine. This one doesn't. I'd appreciate any advice. Thx.

MSAHSV,   You don't need any of these complicated fixes put out by people trying to be helpful, just use the updated weather Gadgets listed in my back Posts!  They work on Win Vista, Win 7, and maybe on Win 8.1 or Win 10 (haven't tested as I hate Win 8.1 & 10)?  Haven't tested on Win 8.1 or Win 10, but may work?  If not, WIn 10 offers some of its own Weather Apps I'm told?  The best policy would be to revert back to Win 7, as Win 10 is un-proven and still needs lots of updates and fixes to catch up to Win 7!  It may be another Dud like Win 8 in the long run, as its a desperate attempt by MS to convert all its OSs to Win 10 by giving it away and then using it to collect data for sale and not allowing the User to block their prying of your data!  Win 10 seems to be a nightmare!

    MSAHSV and Others:

You don't need any of the complicated proposed fixes in this long (over 50 pages) Blog from the start up page question to the latest Post!!  Its not a Weather Gadget Bug, but a deliberate attempt by MS to disable Weather and other Gadgets by not supporting or fixing problems with Gadgets, in order to get you to Upgrade to WIn 10 that supposedly has new Apps for Weather, etc, according to MS?  I have tested the below new updated Weather Gadgets and they will not work on WIn 10, but if anyone can get them to install and work on Win 10, please Post a solution!!??  If you have installed any New Weather Apps from the MS Store, please Post a review on how they compare to the old updated Weather Gadgets and if they will work with Win Vista or Win 7?

The below Posted updated Weather Gadgets will all work great on Win Vista and Win 7, but not on Win 10, and probably not with WIn 8.1? Anyone getting them to work with Win 8.1 and Win 10, Please Post a Solution!?

Updated MSN Weather Gadget V 3.0: http://www17.zippyshare.com/v/RC14U71Y/file.html   Good!

Updated MSN Weather Gadget V3.1: http://www56.zippyshare.com/v/skHmkiDZ/file.html   Good!

Updated Original Weather Gadget, 1 May 15 Version: http://1drv.ms/1Rk7yXe  Good!

This has been a long running Post on the problems with the Vista and Win 7 Weather Gadget, so it is hoped that MS will or has provided a new Win 10 Weather App that works and is similar to the old one?  MS just stopped supporting Gadgets due to what they called a security venerability, that was never proven or shown to be true by anyone!  Its just assumed they stopped the support to help force Users to Upgrade to Win 10!  Any info on a new Win 10 Weather App would help, if available?
