I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit and my weather gadget is not working, it is displaying a message "Cannot connect to service .

I have also tried by turning off firewall and antivirus but it still don't works for me .

Update:

Microsoft has DISABLED the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. You can read more about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662 . Adjusting your computer's settings and all these other "suggestions" people are making, will NOT work. The function has been REMOVED from the operating system. It has also been removed from the Windows 8 operating system. There are "theorists" that either agree that there is a security issue within the gadgets or Microsoft just does not want to support gadgets (usually third party software) and thus, has disabled them in Windows 7 and eliminated them in Windows 8.

Thanks to DaveNYC for the Info. Spread the word because many people are facing this problem just like you.

To all having this problem, the following worked for me:

After eading all kind of solutions, I changed the config.xml file according instructions and then I got connected but only to my own location (in my case Amsterdam). Tried everything else, no results, till I only give the exact zip code for the place I like to see the weather in the search menu and guess it worked, then I did the same on my computer in Greece (via teamviewer) and there it worked as well.

I hope it will help you as good as it did for me.

    now that I saved the txt file as config

    Please try naming the file config.xml, not just config.

    I searched this supposed May 1 2015 new gadet, which would be nice, but too good to be true.

    I had no problems with all the fixes, except my pc guy reloaded my system,and I told him to copy the old files in but he did not, therefore those fixes can no longer be applies, and I am heartbroken.

    1. Add Weather gadget IF NOT present... it should be updating now... set the correct location if needed. but then Upps... date-modified is reset to current date/time... so do again 1-6 skipping changing the location...

    The config.xml file does not store the sidebar gadget locations and parameters.

    They're in:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Settings.ini

    Hello People!

    There are lots of workable fixes posted for the old weather Gadget on previous pages here, but thankfully you don't even need a fix now as someone, probably at Microsoft or in Redmond WA, published or posted a new version of the Weather Gadget dated 1 May 15, I believe!  This new verion works fine on any windows OS version prior to Win 10 and will look up new locations by zip or name just fine!  Its available on the web but I forgot to note the web address, but its hard to find with all the fakes out there!  Just look for the 1 May 15 date and that will be the one!!  Everyone here who is new should first review previous Posts on the many pages for this issue before thinking they have discovered an orginal fix and before trying to claim credit for a new fix, as they are all already posted!!

    If someone finds the new 1 May 15 version of the weather gadget, please post its web URL location

    on this site for all to use!
