RE VZ' 11 Jul Post: @Mitch: Your details on the remaining configW7.xml are really interesting. I'd say until September 21, that gadget should be fine except for the location search issue which has to have another cause, because to this gadget the configW7-deficit
simply doesn't exist yet. Also, the search issue has had another time of appearence, as you can see here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-desktop/weather-gadget-not-working-cannot-connect-to/6707d8b4-1a37-4412-a609-5677c9b99a7a?page=34
It is of course true that you'll have to do a workaround only if configW7.xml is missing, but unfortunately in the meantime this has occured on lots of user accounts and has become the default case, sure to be found on a fresh installation and therefore
a config.xml not even being newly created there. I also have never said it's not necessary to set the date modified to the future, but Anders won't let go of instructing something unessential surplus with the sole function of making people ask "why"?

Hello VZ, (You do have Good Insight about MS' OS!!)
I'm guessing that a semi-permanent fix will work (like I am suggesting below) for the Vista/Win7 Gadget problem (as MS' Current Policy is not to support or fix Gadget Bugs in Vista or Win7 in order to encourage/force you to Upgrade to Win 10!?) is to edit
or change the Expires on date for the IE Temp file ConfigW7.xml to a future date past 21 Sep 15!? The problem is the XML Editor I have does not allow this?? Do you know of an Editor that can do this or is there another way to edit/change this date or dates
for/in the file? This files dates (as seen using MS Exployer) were previously updated/changed by MS' Gadgets.live.com web site that has now been shut down by MS! This may be the best way to continue Gadgets use in Vista/WIn7, if its dates can be edited in
some way or by some Editor?? The other Anders workaround may work too, but this would be better I believe??
This won't of course fix the Name search problem for the Weather Gadget, which was probably caused by some MS Update this year, but at least it will search by Zip code for now! I think this problem first occured after MS took its gadgets web link down in
Jan 2015??
MS is certainly making a number of Weird and Cynical Policy decisions for Win 10, which makes me want to consider a MAC or Lynix OS vs this new MS Win 10 OS!! 1) They won't allow normal Win10 Ver Users to stop Auto Updates!? 2) They won't allow loyal MS
OS legal Users with Vista or XP OSs to Upgrade to Win 10 for Free, despite it being in their best interests to get these versions killed or removed from Users?? Are they trying to split Users into Groups? Is it to just show they can get some money out of
the new Win10 OS?? 3) They have stopped or removed their support for fixing/correcting new problems/bugs discovered in the Vista and Win 7 OS, if a simi;iar App is available that may do the same thing in Win 8 or 10! An example, is the Gadgets or Weather
Gadget in Vista/Win7 where thay have retired (see Posted MS Policy) the Gadgets Function and stopped all support for fixing any possible Bug in Gadgets Functionality because Win 8 or Win 10 uses Apps to do maybe the same thing!? What about current Loyal Users
of Vista and WIn 7 who may want to keep and continue using these Versions well into the future and not Upgrade to Win 10??? Why would they just write off all Vista and Win 7 Users as not worthy of support as we all paid good money for these OSs??? The List
of non-supported Functions will get longer I'm sure for Vista and WIn 7, after Win 10 comes out!!!
It just seems MS or its WIndows Team has been taken over by Bean Counters, who care less about the needs or opinions of its current Vista and Win 7/8 OS Users!!?? This is why I'm turing against MS and considering going to the MAC OS or a Lynix Version OS!!
MS just cannot be trusted to listen to its Users, as it just puts out weird Policy that degrades its Vista and Win 7 OSs, in order to pressure Users to quickly Upgrade to Win 10! This unwarrented and illogical pressure will not work I hope, as the new Win
10 OS is sure to have on release day many Bugs/Problems and probably will not correctly move or transfer your current Programs to Win 10, if at all!! They may transfer, but not work as I've experienced before with new OSs from MS!! The Best Policy if you
are determined to get this so-called Free Win 10 Upgrade (with Vista and XP excepted for some weird selfish reason?), then wait for at least 11 Months so MS can get it to Function normally (with Service Packs and Updates) and fix all the Bugs they normally
have!! This finishes my anti-MS Rant, but MS better Wake Up or it will just see its OS die quickly!!! The Bean Counters must be removed and replaced with people in charge who use common sence and truely listen to Users Complaints and take or elevate them
until corrected by US Techs with authority to correct them!!!
Regards MitchZZ ( I still like MS, but they have gone too far with these weird anti-consumer policies and the lack of real Consumer/User Support!! I refuse to let some tech in India/Phillipines try to solve any huge problem, who has no ability to solve
or elevate a problem and doesn't care!! This is not Support, but Comcast type Support!)
PS: Hope to hear from you about the Editing Problem for the IE Temp configW7.xml file and my other MS Complaints!! MitchZZ I hope MS doesn't decide to censor me or delete this Post, as I'm only giving them valuable Feedback about their actions and Policy!
Someone needs to be able to tell them directly, as they seem to be not listening to Users!?
just use notepad...
