Update:

Microsoft has DISABLED the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. You can read more about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662 . Adjusting your computer's settings and all these other "suggestions" people are making, will NOT work. The function has been REMOVED from the operating system. It has also been removed from the Windows 8 operating system. There are "theorists" that either agree that there is a security issue within the gadgets or Microsoft just does not want to support gadgets (usually third party software) and thus, has disabled them in Windows 7 and eliminated them in Windows 8.

Thanks to DaveNYC for the Info. Spread the word because many people are facing this problem just like you.

To all having this problem, the following worked for me:

After eading all kind of solutions, I changed the config.xml file according instructions and then I got connected but only to my own location (in my case Amsterdam). Tried everything else, no results, till I only give the exact zip code for the place I like to see the weather in the search menu and guess it worked, then I did the same on my computer in Greece (via teamviewer) and there it worked as well.

I hope it will help you as good as it did for me.

Ron

On 6/24/2015, Volume Z posted the location of a zipped config.xml with the date hacked to year 2021. Find the post, download the file, unzip to the correct dir and the cache expiry problem is solved.

The location code is a different problem.

    T  & VZ,

Your advise may be good or correct, but you can't expect casual or unskilled Computer Users or visitors to this SIte to understand  how to make these changes correctly, if they don't even know how to change the date of a file to a new one!  They will more likely than not do more harm to their Computer and OS than what you are trying to tell them to do to possibly fix it!!

It does take basic Computer knowledge about files to do any of these suggested fixes, so giving people more and more alternative ways to change/replace their files, etc, is just assuming too much that casual visitors here with no basic knowledge about file handling will somehow be able to understand what you are talking about!  The best advise for them is to take their Computer to some Geek at Best Buy or elsewhere to do the fix!

As an example, Vladimir (in a Post) can't get them to work and gives up and installs a newer MSM Weather App!  He doesn't even understand that we or most are just trying to get MS Gadgets to work as installed by MS originally, but now are not supported by MS, as they want you to upgrade to Win 10 and will not support or fix any Gadgets problem on Win Vista or Win 7/8!  We all could easily find or install newer Weather Apps, but that is not the point as MS should be obligated to keep Gadgets working on still supported OSs like Win Vista, 7 & 8!!  Now, they have left it up to others to try and fix MSs' problems?? Casual Users only concern is that they want any available Weather Gadget/App that will work installed now, end of story!  I hope you can get this, as its getting amusing to see people try to train casual users in computer and file handling use remotely, that will only get a lot of people in more trouble!

    Hello,

Won't work so I found that it is more simple to download MSN_Weather ( http://gallery-live.com/sidebar-gadgets/MSN%20Weather%202.0 ) and then it work w/o problem ....
