Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums where you can find answers to all your Windows related queries.

We can’t import contacts directly to the People app from a CSV file. However, if you visit http://people.live.com/ you can import the contacts through manage option. You can refer these steps:

a) Visit http://people.live.com/ and login with the same Microsoft ID that you have synced with the People app

b) Click on “Manage” on the top and click on “Add people”

c) Click on “import from a file”

d) Browse and import the CSV file from your computer

Note: It might take some time for the contacts to be updated in the People app in your computer.

    What I think I'm reading here is that one needs to import their list of contacts to one of Microsoft's servers, and then you can (potentially) import them into Windows 8 People.  Is that correct?

    Is there no import wizard such that Excel has had for a decade?  The frustrating thing is I downloaded the contacts from my wife's iPhone 6 with no trouble at all.  They are sitting in a folder in documents called contacts, and they seem to be perfectly formatted.  If I could direct Win8 People to that directory, could all my problems be solved?

    Is there no preferences area where I can manually indicate a directory that Win8 people could draw from and further manage contacts?

    I have her Hotmail account up.  No trouble there.  No contact capability in Hotmail.

    I am a little floored that something as fundamental as this is so obtusely dealt with in Win 8 People.  It almost seems like the expectation is that her contacts are somewhere on a social media app somewhere.

    Please tell me there is a MS caliber elegant way of dealing with this.

    I used the WIN + R to bring up a run window and used 'wab' to bring me to the contacts.  There is a lovely export capability there which gives you either a CSV option or a VCard option for output.  As such I have BOTH files waiting and available for Win 8 People to use to suck in all that beautiful contact data.

    There HAS to be an import knob, button, or lever concealed in Win8 People somewhere.  Can you shed light as to where?

    Ben, I am having trouble loading a .csv file into contacts. It's as if the program won't recognize the file format. Suggestions?

    I agree Windows 8 Help is so confusing. You have to go to a community chat group and wait a week hoping someone has the same issue and can reply. Then usually the remedy is not accurate for Outlook 2013. I have found that to be the case on multiple occasions.

    I wish I had Outlook 7 back. Really.
