I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.

Try installing the latest driver for your graphics card for Windows 10. Alternatively, try reinstalling the current driver you are using, as I had to do because AMD no longer updates the driver for my graphics card. While it hasn't stopped the error entirely, so far as I yet can tell, it has reduced the error. So far I haven't seen it yet today and I was seeing it daily; sometimes multiple times daily, always after waking the machine from sleep. Fingers crossed.
If you cannot get to the OS to reinstall the driver, try to Enable low-resolution video or (if that doesn't work) Safe Mode at the startup screen and reinstall the driver then. Make sure to remove the older one first by uninstalling and then using device manager to delete the files from the hard drive so they don't try to install again and mix older files with newer. Hope this helps.
UPDATED: I just had the problem crop up today so it isn't gone after all, although I expected that it would not be completely gone. Still happens on waking the machine from sleep. It has only been since build 14372 of Windows 10 that this has started happening.

Upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Ultimate and now my P.C. crashes and I get a ' VIDEO TDR FAILURE' report. Pl. help.
I tried for 10 months (since load Windows 10) to repair this error - Sorry Folks - I have it on good authority that your Nividia Card needs replacing and it is probably part of your Mother Board - so an expensive exercise but the only way to correct this problem. Don't bother trying all those things on Google and gettig frustrated - they do not work - go and get new Nividia Cards.
No need to replace Nvidia video card. Very likely the 12 volt supply to the card is stressed and not able to supply the current needed by the Video card even at rest (no game graphics, etc.). My PC is an older Dell XPS 700 with motherboard upgrade to make it XPS 720. This PC does not have the newer power supply's heavy duty 12 volt rail. I use parallel connections to get close to the required amps needed for my GTX 770. The power supply cannot deliver all the 12 volt power needed even though it is a 1,000 watt PS.
I will use a separate PS to supply the 12 volts to the GTX 770 to relieve the problem. This has been recommended in several forums as a solution. To replace the Dell PS is not possible as Dell does not make updated replacement PS's for 7 year old machines. Also there are no third party PS due to the unique connections Dell uses.
