Oddly, I half understand why they handicapped Photos App. Excluding the possible pressure from Facebook, etc., consider the fact that offering such networking to your other computers and to other clouds (Facebook, Flickr, etc.), there's little incentive for most people to *pay* for SkyDrive. I personally had a use for SkyDrive and chose to pay for it, but when most could just upload their pics for free to Flickr, Facebook, and even their other home networked computers, there's simply no reason to shell out $50 got MS cloud service. This sucks....a lot....and, well, it makes the entire app (and SkyDrive) entirely useless to me.

No longer allows images from other computers or the network - am guessing that because there is now support for SkyDrive on RT and MS is heavily emphasizing that as the preferred storage location (when you upgrade, one of the questions asked before you even get to the desktop is if you want to use SkyDrive as your default storage area - and that seems to be the default - and MS feels the network, NAS, Homegroup, and other computers are deprecated. Just to throw it out there but Music and Video also appear to have issues with seeing network content that was all working fine before the preview was installed. Of course if you go through Windows Explorer everything works as expected... its crazy to think that Microsoft would remove such a feature in an age where more and more people are storing picture, movies and music on separate hard drives. Nas drives must be supported! Guys, The network share stuff is working for me. But I have the network folder in my Pictures library and the share is an indexed network share (since I use a windows 8 box as my file server). If you aren't seeing the network stuff working then perhaps you don't have an indexed share? That being said I whole heartedly agree that its a travesty that this app has been so neutered. Its really a case of MS doing what is in their best interests rather than what is in their customer's best interests. Either that or its product management gone very awry!

The network share stuff is working for me. But I have the network folder in my Pictures library and the share is an indexed network share (since I use a windows 8 box as my file server). If you aren't seeing the network stuff working then perhaps you don't have an indexed share? Yeah it works in the final release with indexed shares which I half expected when I originally posted about it back in the first thread. It was frustrating at the time as it was something that also hadn't worked back in the original Windows 8 preview and was eventually fixed only to break again. I would assume people with NAS devices that can't be indexed are in the same position they were in with the original 8.0 release.

I suppose like lots of others the feature I am missing the most is the every-updating photo montage. What was the purpose in removing that?

It's pretty clear that the 1Tb Flickr'free storage doesn't push us to buy SkyDrive storage! But suppressing access ti Flick through the Photo App is pretty unfair from Microsoft. Please bring back this feature! And by the way improve local NAS storage as well! I was almost to the point not to update to 8.1 just because of that unfair move.

Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

Yeah it works in the final release with indexed shares which I half expected when I originally posted about it back in the first thread. It was frustrating at the time as it was something that also hadn't worked back in the original Windows 8 preview and was eventually fixed only to break again.

I would assume people with NAS devices that can't be indexed are in the same position they were in with the original 8.0 release.
