Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

I feel the same way **** you all, was very quick to update to 8.1. But....

...Lets all take a big breath though, there may be some sense in what MS said about encouraging 3rd party apps. Id MS does a great jon in something as key as photos, then the developers may not be interested. The integration in photos was about integrating across multiple networks. Apps can do this, doesn't have top baked into the OS. It's the People hub where integration is key IMHO.

I'm using photoweaver, and there have already been some updates. It does most of what the old Photo app did. Ther are some additions needed though:

1. A large live tile
2. Pinch and zoom
3. Tidy it up a bit, for example remove the flickr/FB etc icons if you don't want to use those services.

So, hopefully the PhotoWeaver dev is watching this site. Lets encourage him/her/them.

Anyone found other apps they like for this functionality?

I don't want a third party app, I want the functionality that already existed in 8.0. I rolled my Surface back to 8 because of this. If you want separate or third party apps, that's great, but you don't speak for the majority of users here.

Agree. What a cluster cuss. Most of the other Metro apps have improved nicely but Photos in 8.1 is pretty much worthless to me if it can't show photos from my WHS.  What is it with Microsoft these days. They're consistently finding ways to shoot their foot off at a time when they can't afford to do so.

Sure, I recognise that. I have also posted about not getting any satisfaction. I was merely pointing out that while if you can't get what you want you might get what you need elsewhere.

So far we have 27 pages of ditto, so I make no apology for trying to give a solution. Is this only a forum for all repeating the same thing ad nauseam? Perhaps it is, I see someone found yours reply to my post helpful, one more than I got. I wonder how it helped exactly?

I've installed Windows 8.1 RTM from MSDN on my development machine so that I can update my Windows Store Apps for Windows 8.1.

Here is what I can report on the Photos App

1. You CAN add indexable network folders on the classic desktop to the library and the Photos App will "see" them. I tested by adding folders with images from a Windows 8 RTM and a Windows 7 machine. The Photos App does in fact, show networked media, I've shown in red below what is on the network.

2. I elected to NOT use SkyDrive as a default for storage of Documents during setup (clean install), the Photos App automatically started showing images from a public folder I had created on SKyDrive in the Live Tile. (NOT from the Pictures folder. From a specific Folder with images I had created and made Public). So far I can't find a way to turn this off.
3. Facebook and Flickr integration are gone as in the preview.
