It is a shame that Microsoft is reverting to the "app for that" mentality of Apple... if I wanted an "app for that" I would have just bought an iPad... instead I wanted the messaging and photo hubs. Shame on you Microsoft.

Very true... I thought they had learned but they still have plenty of stupid people in positions of authority. They've been telling developers for years to centralize around their stuff then they go and screw the consumers. I still say if they want to remove this functionality then they should open one of these extension point contracts such as the sharing and device charms/hubs to allow third parties to integrate into the photo and messaging hub (the Windows 8.0 messenger is still amazingly better than the crappy Skype app.)

The Verge are reporting on a new build of 8.1 which appears to confirm at least some of our fears. http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/12/4613248/windows-8-1-build-9741-screenshots-tutorial-changes Microsoft dropped Facebook and Flickr photo integration in the preview version of Windows 8.1, and there's no sign this is making a return in the pre-final version. SkyDrive is now fully integrated into the Photos app, but Facebook and Flickr are both missing. Oh great! So it seems they are really going down the dumb-app-by-numbers route, rather than the Windows Phone integration route. As everyone says, a stupid backward step. Now photos has been reduced to a dumb, pointless app. I like to share and view photos from multiple sources. Now this isn't possible. Whose idiotic idea was this? Having a Facebook app that just deals with Facebook photos is ridiculous! As much as Facebook wants us all to just use there site for everything, including photos, in reality that's not going to happen. So annoying! Whose to blame? MS or Facebook?

That feature was such a great feature, that the even have it listed as one of the selling points on the Surface website: " View and import photos and home videos The Photos app is the place to see all your photos and home videos. Sign in to Surface with a Microsoft account!\[\](http://www.microsoft.com/surface/assets/img/external.png) and see all your photos—whether they're on Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive, or on your Surface—with the Photos app." Maybe they will take away offering larger hard drives and only offer a 8 GB hard drive and just offer Skydrive to people. And when people complain about that, tell them that they can buy a flash drive. That sounds like the avenue they are taking. If I wanted to go backward in features, I could have bought an Android or iPad.

Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...
