I am a photographer and my decision for choosing Microsoft Surface over an IPad was because the photo app and the ability to connect an external drive via usb. The photo app was huge for me, I am all about photography and photos, and At this point I will sell my Surface before I would upgrade to 8.1. I do not use the tiles and apps on the Surface I access Facebook from the desktop as I haven't found a Microsoft FB app I like. Maybe some 3rd party app builder can create a hub app for photos so 8.1 will appeal to me.

In Windows 8, we wanted to provide a way for folks to view their photos on other services knowing there would be few (if any) apps in the store at launch that would do so. Now there are many apps in the store that offer ways to view photos on other services and soon there will even be a Facebook app from Facebook. We’re confident Facebook will offer great ways to view and engage socially with photos on Facebook. We welcome Flickr to do the same. In addition, the People app still offers the ability to socially engage with your friends and even your own photos. Just saw a new Blackberry TV ad -- they're pitching how they now provide an integrated UX across services without the users having to launch "a bunch of apps". Maybe it's all BS, but at the risk of being completely flamed, does this mean BB gets it and MSFT doesn't?

Big step backwards, why take features away? make no sense. 8.1 on the whole looks like a good update, but silly decisions like this just fuel the crazy debates that Windows is dying. Come on MS help us out here.

Yeah. I'm anxiously awaiting for a good, updated competitor's device to emerge so I can jump ship. Absolutely positively done with this. I hope the water isn't too cold when the ship goes down, Microsoft. Send my regards to Ballmer.

Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...
