Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

EDIT: October 18 – This has been edited to reflect the Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 official RTM/GA release.

I've just installed the 8.1 Preview on a desktop. EDIT: 10/17/2013-this is also true for RTM. The Photos App has changed:

  1. No longer includes the ability to show images from Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive

  1. Does have some new editing features

 3. Live Tile functionality has disappeared.

Tiles are working, but images change only 1x per day. This needs to be a shorter period.

    With all due respect, the reasoning behind this reason for crippling Photos doesn't add up. Many will deduce and speculate one or more alternatives like:

    1. This was a mistake or accidental omission that slipped through requirements testing. The Libraries functionality changes in 8.1 may have an adverse ripple effect on other functionality.
    2. New contractual obligations to services like Facebook warranted crippling.
    3. Windows 8.x design is eroding away from a unique, market-leading integrated UX and returning to a model of "apping in and out" to perform mundane tasks (like viewing photos).
    4. This reason is actually incorrect and synthesized to provide a quick answer to the community.

    Regardless of wild speculation or implications to Photos, some will be watching this under a larger scope, perhaps as a harbinger of things to come.

    I have tried this on Surface RT but still only see pictures on "This PC" there are no pictures from SkyDrive in the Photos app.

    Thanks for the feedback, everybody.  In Windows 8, we wanted to provide a way for folks to view their photos on other services knowing there would be few (if any) apps in the store at launch that would do so.  Now there are many apps in the store that offer ways to view photos on other services and soon there will even be a Facebook app from Facebook.  We’re confident Facebook will offer great ways to view and engage socially with photos on Facebook.  We welcome Flickr to do the same.  In addition, the People app still offers the ability to socially engage with your friends and even your own photos.

    THIS DOES NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION.  MODERATORS, PLEASE UNMARK THIS AS THE ANSWER.

    Will the Photos app ever again support SkyDrive (including remote computers), HomeGroup, Network Storage, etc.?  These issues need to be addressed before I will consider this thread as answered.

    I will miss having other services (FB and Flickr), but I ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE access to more than just the local images on my Surface for this app to be of any use.

    FYI: I would not worry about this if the SkyDrive app offered access to remote machines like the SkyDrive Web Site does.
