Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

Thanks for the feedback, everybody.  In Windows 8, we wanted to provide a way for folks to view their photos on other services knowing there would be few (if any) apps in the store at launch that would do so.  Now there are many apps in the store that offer ways to view photos on other services and soon there will even be a Facebook app from Facebook.  We’re confident Facebook will offer great ways to view and engage socially with photos on Facebook.  We welcome Flickr to do the same.  In addition, the People app still offers the ability to socially engage with your friends and even your own photos.

Dear Carmen!  Unless there are legal/contractual conditions with Facebook, etc. this is the major step back. One would think that next iterations of Windows would come with even deeper integration with other services. That's what Windows Phone 8 has. Intuitively, you would assume these two platforms would be coming closer and closer to each other. And this move exactly goes the opposite direction. Wow!

MS promotes cloud storage, and it makes sense. I keep a lot of photos on SkyDrive. That means the Photo app has become totally useless to me. And I am sorry, Carmen, your canned response just does not cut it. Like others have mentioned: why using 5 apps to do 5 things while one app could do those 5 things itself?

I am also running a 1366x 768 resolution, mine b default shows three rows, but using the option I previously mentioned, I can have four. It's clearly NOT a screen size thing either as I  only have an 11.6in screen, I have the option, so should you.

More information on Networking - Strangely enough, the file picker IS available from other Apps in 8.1 in the Photos App. And you can access Network assets/images.

This morning I was sending a tweet in a Windows 8 App and when I used the image button, the Photos App opened (and not windows explorer which is what happens on RTM W8) and was able to attach a file from a networked computer. This is more evidence that the Photos App is part of the OS and not an APP.

One of the best features on Windows 8 was streaming networked photos.  I could go to my parents' house and show them whatever library was on my hard drive at home.  Is this a permanent change, or do you think Microsoft removed networking support in just 8.1 preview?

I'm running on a 1366x768 resolution

This resolution supports 4 rows of tiles.

The 'Shows more tiles' option only appears if your resolution allows for more than 6 rows. Once you passed 6, you can choose to have 6 maximum, or as many as the screen can fit.

What I was talking about was the thumbnails in the photos app, which shows 3 rows of thumbnails, despite the old app (which had the same size thumbnails) showing 4 rows on the same resolution.

The only setting available is 'Shuffle photos on the Photos tile'
