Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

Just add your music and video folders on your SkyDrive to the corresponding library. the Corresponding apps would pick that right up.

Under Windows Explorer, go to SkyDrive, right click the folder -> include in library -> choose corresponding library. Go back to the app (reopen it if have to), all of your supporting content should appear.

May I suggest you DO read the thread?

It is great that SkyDrive as default storage works for you. Personally speaking, I have Terabytes of photos and music. Would be expensive and inconvenient to store in the cloud.

2. No longer allows images from other computers or the network -  am guessing that because there is now support for SkyDrive on RT and MS is heavily emphasizing that as the preferred storage location (when you upgrade, one of the questions asked before you even get to the desktop is if you want to use SkyDrive as your default storage area - and that seems to be the default - and MS feels the network, NAS, Homegroup, and other computers are deprecated.

 

 

Just to throw it out there but Music and Video also appear to have issues with seeing network content that was all working fine before the preview was installed. Of course if you go through Windows Explorer everything works as expected...

Haven't read the entire thread, so I'm not quite sure what the exact problem is with the Photos App and Libraries, but I did just want to say that in my case, the Photos App is displaying all files and folders in my Pictures Library.  In fact, this is how I got the Photos App to show my pictures that are stored in Skydrive (I simply added my Skydrive Pictures folder to the Pictures Library).

Edit:  The Photos App even knows that the Skydrive Pictures folder is from Skydrive, as when I select a subfolder from the Skydrive Pictures folder, the heading up top changes from "This PC" to "SkyDrive".

Microsoft should put the source for the 8.0 version into Codeplex if it's not going to support 8.1.

guys, the problem is more dire than whether or not someone will provide an app that has all the features that the current version of the photos app has. The problem is really that if MS is de-emphasizing libraries, homegroups, etc. then we can no longer count on any app that loads or saves photos pulling from the library locations or saving the the library save location.

This makes it much harder to deal with storing all your media in the same place on your network and having occasionally connected devices read the media only when connected and NOT have a local cache. The harddrive on a device like the surface is NOT large enough to have an offline cache of all your media if you have more than a small amount.

If MS is really yanking library support from the built in apps, then they need to tell us what we should be doing instead. And storing the files locally or putting everything on Skydrive are NOT valid answers to that question.
