Barb, thanks for the clarification. I did choose Skydrive as my default storage. So how to I point the Photo app to look in Skydrive? I is only looking at "This PC". Also, doesn't answer 1 contradict answer 2? Please advise.

But, you can add skydrive and network locations by using the library feature and adding it there. Right click on the library you wish to change, select properties, click add and select your network drive and sky drive location. You may need to rebuild the index by going to the search charm type indexing options, advanced, rebuild. For me what happens is if I am to search for a partial name of say a music album, the search charm will come up with a result in less than 5 seconds for a network album. It even lists an option to play the album, so Windows is aware that this album exists, its just the newer Photos/Music/Video apps don't list them for whatever reason.

Ok, so when is this basic functionality coming back? The app is pointless and useless without the integration. Time for Microsoft to listen to it's customers....

And even if it did work, it is plain stupid as it is a complete regression in user friendliness and abilities. I mean, being able to browse network locations should be the minimum as is browsing local media ! And this Out of the box. I mean, it is Windows 8.1, not Linux from 1996, it is completely surrealistic to even have to imagine that one would have to hack libraries and indexation to be able to browse files on one's network.

Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...
