Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

I agree. I hate that the integration of online services are gone. Now it's just a **** ugly photo viewer, instead of a glorified, central hub, like WP7/8 and Windows 8.0

Add applicable photo apps to the Photo hub too, like WP7/8

The Live Tile is really disappointing, omw. For an OS which prides itself on media and live tiles, the photo app is showing the same photos on the tile for the past 3 weeks. Been trying to make flip through more albums, no luck there.

Seriously.... take a step back and look at where the influence for the app came from. It came from Microsoft's Photo HUB in Windows Phone. The point of this is to be a hub for all of the photos we have, including online services. It is really a step back having to remove these services because Facebook will be having it's own app, and Flickr will have their own app. If that was the case, we could have just pinned the websites respectively to the start screen. Users do not want that, they want one centralized place to see everything happen. If they want to see photos only, minus all the status updates, that's what the Photo hub was suppose to do for us. Please Microsoft, bring this back.

I just upgraded to 8.1 as well and have the same issue as everyone else on here.  I had never seen anything like the Photo app in windows 8 and it was often one of the cool features I showed to my friends to try and convince them that Microsoft hadn't completely shot themselves in the foot with this OS.  It usually worked pretty well, as most people thought this was a really cool feature. 

Now I have "upgraded" to Windows 8.1 and find the photo app to be nothing but a redesigned version of file explorer, but with even less features.  I'm not really concerned about whether or not there will be a facebook app as I can just open my browser, or whether or not there is a people app because I don't use that for photos.  I just want a one-stop app for all the photos I have, regardless of location.  Microsoft provided this for me and I was pleased.  And now its been taken away and I don't really understand why.

The Photo app displays all the pictures that are included in the pictures Library. If you want to add pictures that are saved in other locations, you can just include them in your pictures library and it will automatically added to the Photo app. Just right click on any folder that you would like to add and select “Include in Library” and then select “pictures”. Now, this folder will be automatically displayed in the Photo app.

           

And for some of us even this is broken. I'm not getting anything at all to show up in the app. Have rest library a few times, changed default save folder etc...

Like everyone else, hope this is sorted.

Edit- sorry,is working. BUT camera doesn't save to default save folder in library... issues, issues....

I was just looking to see the file location for the Photos app and found it in C:\Windows\FileManager.

That folder also contains the "File Explorer" app that oddly shows on the Start Screen as "SkyDrive".

Why these apps would need to share resources, I'm not sure.

It does appear that when browsing Photos in the "File Explorer" app you get the same options to edit a photo as in the "Photos" app so it seems they at least share that part.

It looks like the reason for this is ""integration" with Windows 8.1.
