Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

EDIT: October 18 – This has been edited to reflect the Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 official RTM/GA release.

I've just installed the 8.1 Preview on a desktop. EDIT: 10/17/2013-this is also true for RTM. The Photos App has changed:

  1. No longer includes the ability to show images from Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive

  1. Does have some new editing features

 3. Live Tile functionality has disappeared.

Tiles are working, but images change only 1x per day. This needs to be a shorter period.

    The Verge are reporting on a new build of 8.1 which appears to confirm at least some of our fears.

    Microsoftdropped Facebook and Flickr photo integration in the preview version of Windows 8.1, and there's no sign this is making a return in the pre-final version. SkyDrive is now fully integrated into the Photos app, but Facebook and Flickr are both missing.

     

     

    From what I've seen, they've also removed the Skydrive "Fetch Files" option that let me see other computers on my home network when I was away.

    This really was a terrible idea.  I haven't touched the photos hub app since i upgraded to 8.1, when it was integrated with other services i used it all the time.  This is a HUGE step backwards in functionality.  Same could be said about the messaging app that just disappeared along with all of my conversations.  Why would you move away from the one defining characteristic of this new platform, the idea of HUBS.  that's why i use a windows phone and a windows tablet, which is now my one and only computer, laptop/desktop replacement.  HUBs are your differentiators, please bring them back.  Without that functionality, the photos app is useless, since i don't really store any pictures on my tablet.

    This is a pity because I don't have ready access to SkyDrive and I am reliant on my internal storage and additional portable external hard drives. My 14GB free on my 32GB tablet doesn't allow me to store all my pics/music/video and my SD of 128GB helps a lot in this regard but it is really frustrating not being able to access and look at my pictures "normally" from the SD card, which I am using as my main storage.

    Yeah. I'm anxiously awaiting for a good, updated competitor's device to emerge so I can jump ship.

    Absolutely positively done with this. I hope the water isn't too cold when the ship goes down, Microsoft. Send my regards to Ballmer.
