I was just about to post a similar comment. I totally agree with your comments particularly where you say CamenZ's explanation is "quite disingenuous". This is the sort of response Don Mattrick made about the work around for the Xbox One's "always on" requirement (Which has since been changed.). I also own and WP8 and find the "hub" concept to be one of the phones strongest features. Why CarmenZ thinks it is better to find ones photos spread across several apps is stunning - let alone not being able to easily access NAS/Skydrive photos being a particularly bad idea. Hopefully Microsoft's imminent reorg will put people in place that can truly understands a consumer's needs and dumb moves like this one will be a thing of the past. Hope springs eternal.

I recently convinced my parents to invest in a new touch windows 8 machine primarily for the integration of the photos app and they love it. I absolutely cannot believe that you are taking away this feature and trying to spin it as an improvement.

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. In Windows 8, we wanted to provide a way for folks to view their photos on other services knowing there would be few (if any) apps in the store at launch that would do so. Now there are many apps in the store that offer ways to view photos on other services and soon there will even be a Facebook app from Facebook. We’re confident Facebook will offer great ways to view and engage socially with photos on Facebook. We welcome Flickr to do the same. In addition, the People app still offers the ability to socially engage with your friends and even your own photos. Most people have photographs scattered over all manner of services and devices. Please tell me how in Microsoft's wisdom, by forcing people to find their photos on different apps, is this more intuitive, more convenient and just more sensible than having a central, one-stop place to access all your photos??? Or are we missing something here? Is it a case of appeasing Facebook over your users? I don't buy your explanation. It's actually quite disingenuous; Windows Phone has a similar Photos app/hub with the same functionality. I don't recall Microsoft removing this integration from their phone OS.

This needs to be fixed. Windows 8 is great BECAUSE of the integration. If they remove it, then it is not very much different than iOS. If anything Windows 8.1 should have MORE integration, not less. I see that they want to get facebook and flickr to make their own app, and maybe removing integration is supposed to be to appease the developers of the official apps, but I feel integration is a must and should be put back.
