how can i lock desktop icons in windows 8

This operation did not work.

Every time I plug in the second monitor it shifts all my icons to the right-hand side. I then have to move them back to the left-hand side and rearrange them.

Is there a way to lock these icons in place with a do not move when you plug in the second monitor.

Yes, there is a way to fight this with MS, REPORT the post as abuse, see just to the right of reply.

I've done this several times myself, can use some help. Just tell them it is abuse since the solution is not a solution, and this was proved early in the thread. Once the solution was shown to not be a solution, MS should NOT keep presenting the same thing as a solution.

It is indeed ABUSE to the Microsoft community to spread false information, moreover it is WORSE that it is Microsoft ITSELF doing this.

You can copy the above and present it... they will eventually take the answer down until the next Minion comes along.

Hi, I had the same problem. I have Dell xps with tablet/laptop screen and whenever I change the screen all the icons re arrange. Same thing happened on my Lenovo laptop when I switch between desk monitor and laptop screen. Followed you advice but the auto arrange was already unchecked?

The only secure way I found to prevent this is to switch to "PC screen only" before shutting down the PC or putting it to sleep.

If not I almost always have weird things happening with the icons when I put it on again.
