    I think you need to re-read the 1st post and the thread title. This thread is about the desire (and inability) to lock icons on one's desktop; the MS employee who replied suggested "Uncheck the option: Auto arrange icons."

    Therefore, JerryDanowski's reply

         *This answer does NOT work.*My "auto arrange" is not checked and my icons re-arrange anyway.

    absolutely IS in keeping with the stated topic of this thread. JerryDanowski did NOT shift the focus of this thread, and frankly, you're not helping by suggesting that he did.

    This answer DOES NOT WORK. My "Auto arrange icons" has been unchecked for 4 months -- ever since I got crappitoony Windows 8 and started having this problem and checked this site -- and STILL, my icons rearrange themseles periodically, for no identifiable reason.

    Hey, you sorry excuses for engineers at Microsoft: FIX THIS ALREADY. WINDOWS USERS HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS. I HAD A MAC LAPTOP FROM 2005-2010, AND ITS VERSION OF WINDOWS ENABLED ME TO LOCK THE ICONS ON THE DESKTOP. BUT MY PC WINDOWS 7 AND WINDOWS 8 HAVEN'T ALLOWED IT.

    IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT PEOPLE WANT TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THEIR ICONS IN ONE PLACE. I MEAN, YOU-AT-MS DON'T LET YOUR MENU OPTIONS SLIDE AROUND. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO WASTE TIME LOOKING FOR THINGS THAT THEY HAVE PURPOSELY ARRANGED IN AN ORDERLY WAY. THIS IS JUST COMMON SENSE.

    This thread started on icons moving around on the screen, being displaced, moved to a second monitor, etc. You can see this in the first few posts.

    It really is not about auto arrange, a different situation. Why not move that question to a different, and more appropriate thread, since the original problem is still NOT solved for all users experiencing this.

    Back to the topic: since apparently my problem was solved since I have a particular high resolution driver, is there a registry entry that controls the "autoscroll" function?

    Maybe that is the solution for the other people who still have the issue.

    I agree with Jerry.  The original question was about Icons re-arranging after the computer restarts.  MS said to to uncheck "Auto-arrange" which does not fix the problem. This question still has not been answered, yet you've now hijacked the thread to a different topic about "auto-scrolling" which was NOT the original topic.  YOU should have to start a new topic, not him, because this was originally exactly what he asked about, and you are the one who diverted the topic, and the original topic has yet to be answered, like he said!
