Hi, I'm using the windows 8 and just few days ago, I can't update and even can't install an new app, it show an error code 0x80240437

I already done SFC scan, troubleshoot, run wsreset.exe....and it doesn't fix for me, I know that maybe refresh windows might fix for me, but I don't want to reinstall or make a backup image, just because I don't want to take too much of time for waiting.

So can anyone can give me some solution to fix, Thanks.

Hi Chung,

This error could occur due to issues with Windows update components or services on the computer.

Did you make any changes to the settings or components for Windows update prior to this issue on the computer?

Before we move ahead and troubleshoot the issue, let’s find out whether the Windows update service is started and in manual mode. This is how you can check:

a)      Press Windows and R key together to open run.

b)      Type “services.msc” and hit Enter.

c)       Locate “Windows update” service and “Background Intelligent Transfer service “. Double click on each one of them.

d)      Check if the services status are “Started” and set to “manual”.

e)      If not, start it and set the startup type to manual.

f)       Click on Apply and then on OK.

Try to downloading or updating the apps again from the app store and check if you get the same error message. If so, you can follow the methods to further troubleshoot the issue

Method 1:

Let’s run the Modern User Interface app troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Refer to the link to run app troubleshooter on the computer and check if that helps.

Note: The troubleshooter automatically fixes some issues that might prevent your apps from running, including suboptimal screen resolution and incorrect security or account settings.

 http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/4/F24D0C03-4181-4E5B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/apps.diagcab

Check if you are able to download and update the apps from Store. If not, move to the next method.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to run the Windows update troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the link to do so:

Refer to the section “Windows 8 or Windows 7”

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2714434/en-us

Note: After you run the troubleshooter, make sure that you restart the computer by using hard reset using the power button and not using the shutdown option under power icon on the charms bar.

Try downloading and updating apps. If you still receive the same error message, proceed to the next method.

Method 3:

Let’s stop the Windows update services

a)  Press Windows and R key together top open “Run”.

 b) Type, “services.msc” (without the quotations) and hit “Enter”.

 c) Scroll down to the “Windows Update service” and “Background Intelligent Transfer service “and Right Click and select “Stop” for both of them.

 d) Navigate to the path-

*C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution*

e) Delete all the contents of the folder.

 f) Now, follow the steps from a) and then b). Select “Start” for both the services.

 g) Check if the issue persists.

Please let us know about the status of this issue. We will be happy to assist you further.
