windows 7 weather gadget cannot connect to service

Finally got mine to work again today, but it defaults to New York City and I am in CT.  when I change location, it says "not found" I checked my location sensor and it is enabled.  usually once I have the gadget working, the zip code changes the location easily.  it must not be connecting for some other reason

And perhaps I've found another kind of solution, so one don't have to go thru this above each week.

This morning I simply changed the Date on the config.xml, to 2017, and then set the Attribute READ ONLY on the file, and it's still working ...

Personally I use a program called FileMenu Tool to change the Date, from http://www.lopesoft.com/en/filemenutools but there are many other programs that simply changes the date.

Another way to change date on a file, is to change the date in your computer, then RE-save the file, and then set the date back again to correct date.

And to set Attribute just rightclick the file, chose Properties, and Click Read-Only, click OK.

edit:  I tried it again (saving file with a 2017 date) and this time it worked.  Hoping that means I won't have to do anything for 2 years. 

WHERE exactly do you SIMPLY CHANGE THE DATE ON YOUR COMPUTER?  can you give directions for that please?  

I have mentioned in a previous post that this will not work for everyone. The reason is, that everyone's PC does not have the same software and apps, etc. Only one of my PCs (of three) has a problem with the Weather Gadget.  It stops updating. I tried this fix several times and it did not work (yes, I made it write protected). So, I would open the config.xml file and re-save it several times a week. Only took a few seconds.  However, after another Win7 update, I tried this solution again and it has since worked

• for one month so far.

Apparently, the process that keeps updating the Weather Gadget gets confused by certain apps or browser extensions.  It has something to do with a change in Windows for the DPI (dots per inch) of your desktop.  Whatever the reason, it is not exactly the same for everyone, thus there are many suggested solutions.

This one works for a majority of users:

a.  Copy and paste the following BOLD text,into the Windows Explorer search box.

*%localappdata%\microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache*

You will see the config.xml  file.

The date of the file can be seen as something in the past.  

b. Change the date of your computer to any date in the future (2017 is just an idea of the original contributor, thinking that by 2017 Windows will have a new version with real apps and not gadgets).  2099 or 2020 or whatever date you choose.

c. Open the config.xml file with notepad.  Do NOT make any changes, and then simply save it. Since your PC is in a future date, the date of the file will be that date.  

d. Now, the important part. Right click on the file, and select "Properties".  Change the attributes so that it is "Read only."  

You're almost done.

e. Change the date of your computer back to the current day. 

Done.
