Was having this same problem and I fixed it. Check to make sure it's actually not waking! In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not. I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen. In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep. It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!
windows 8 won't wake up from sleep mode
I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it
- touching mouse
- touching power button
- using windows key + C
- no results unless I do a hard power down
Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them
The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode
very frustrating...suggestions please?

2013-10-09T11:45:35+00:00 Same here, the Internet is full of hundreds more. The Power troubleshooter came up with absolutely nothing!
Changing the workstations in the office to High Performance. It doesn't take much searching on the Internet to see that Microsoft has a problem and is not taking care of this.
People have documents open, come back and have to power off / on. Window 8 is lowering productivity and consuming more energy.
Please address this issue.
HP Envy desktop - Windows 8 64 bit, noting but MS Office installed nothing but IE installed. We have had crashes three times now and restored from scratch on this machine. We are afraid to even install Apple music player on Windows 8 at this time. All original hardware. Lots of Kapersky virus checks.
Update: Changed Energy Savings to High Performance
This fixed the problem.

2013-10-08T04:53:52+00:00 Add my computer to the bad boy list. My three month old unmodified Dell i7-4770 Desktop (x64 - build 9200) running Windows 8 sometimes (but not always) fails to readily come out of sleep mode.
When I persistently move the mouse and hit random keys it has eventually (sometimes after several minutes) come back on -- with one exception. The exception was the last time it happened. In that case I gave up, did a hard power down and searched out this discussion group. Seems that this problem is affecting all models of computers running Windows 8.
Hello Microsoft. Do you hear us? How about some help here?

2013-09-09T00:11:48+00:00 Just manually install your updates daily. The auto-update causes many problems.
Same problem here on new sony vaio pro 13, happening multiple times a day (about 1/2 the time it enters sleep) since a recent bios update
haven't tried windows update changes but maybe I will. planning on sending it in for repair hopefully sony can fix something
anyone else have any other suggestions?
