I have a Dell desktop with Windows 8 and it will wake up from sleep mode if not in use for awhile but if left for longer periods it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up. I have tried to wake it touching mouse touching power button using windows key + C no results unless I do a hard power down Now it has started to download windows updates without installing them The best I saved for last...it will not shut down it only goes into Power Save mode very frustrating...suggestions please?

Hi themorrigan That is the only workaround as of now I have found and I fixed it in this way for myself. As I mentioned before if you are sure of you PC model and current version of BIOS and the updated version shown in the manufact web there is no probs as far as I know... and I didn't land up to any probs during the BIOS update Still... its your choice bro.. try for smt less risky then if nothing works .... wish you could fix it soon.

That's a very risky thing to do unless you know what you're doing. It's not like adding one of those cute little "apps"....it's more like major surgery. Meanwhile, read up on Linux and consider that as an OS. There seems to be no end to problems and no answers for them either.

I have to lean on the power button till it shuts down, then turn it back on.

Was having this same problem and I fixed it. Check to make sure it's actually not waking! In my case the computer itself was waking but the display adapter was not. I could hear the processor fan come back on, the hard drives spin up, but nothing on my screen. In my BIOS, there was an option to not let the integrated graphics adapter sleep. It was called "RC6 Render Standby" and I turned it off -- fixed!

Fixit _ For windows 8 pro not waking up after restarting

Just go to your PC manufacture Web and check if there any BIOS update exist, make sure your PC model and the BIOS version are correct, then update with the new BIOS the "unable to wake" problem will be fixed.....
