I was taken to slimware to update drivers. Is this legitimate? Or is there a better, safer way to upadate.

Hi,
You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through 3rd party Programs or Windows Update.
Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

If suggestions above have not help you to get rid of this 'bogus' program, please try Revo Uninstaller and MBAM (as suggested in many related threads) which should take care of this PUP.
MBAM should detect it as 'PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A'.
This > 'Remove PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A virus Removal Guide' may be of assistance.
AdwCleaner (a trustworthy anti-adware scanner) may also be a good idea to search (and remove) for any other Adware or Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that might have been installed there with or without your knowledge or consent.
You need to remove - not only 'DriverUpdate' - but everything "SlimWare Utilities" that might have been installed (SlimCleaner, for instance?) there with or without your knowledge.

I do not want to deal with slimware. It will not let me cancel it updateing my drivers. I'd rather find another provider.
My experience with Slimware Utilities and their driver update program/service is the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE, I've ever had from a software firm. Their support person operating my computer remotely 'fixed' my computer so it would NOT even boot up. Then, their only response was to contact their support time 'online', which I obviously could not do. I took my compute to a 3rd party to have it fixed. This firm is more like dealing with a 'hostage malware/virus' company than a legitimate software service provider. I'll NEVER use any of their products again and STRONGLY suggest others do the same.
I purchased Slimware services, including driver updates for 2 years for my new HP Probook. I called them twice and they were unable to help me regarding either issue. One issue I then solved myself and for the other issue I received prompt and free assistance from Microsoft tech services. I have requested a complete refund from Slimware and, while they agreed to cancel my subscription and not charge the last two installment payments, they refused to refund my first installment, even though they were incapable of resolving my issues. In my experience, Microsoft and HP tech services are much more competent and customer service focused than Slimware, and won't charge you $387 for 2 years of "support".
