I'm confused by the two posts and different directions. I mean the mess that you see above the post you just made.
Can't straighten out my folders...their order is very messed up.

I recently found that the folder "Desktop" was somehow located under "Searches". I attempted to move it so that it would be under my name (as I'm listed under "Users". Instead "Desktop" is now at the top of the folders file.
If you go to OS (C:) then "Users", then pick my name, on the left under "Folders" you will see:
Desktop
My Name
Public
Computer
Network
Control Panel
Recycle Bin
All Photos
Desktop Items (a folder I had created to put stray items in)
and two other folders I created for my desktop
I really see this as a mess and I don't know how to move, rename or fix that "Desktop" folder. I, of course, don't want to lose any of my work.

There is something funny going on here.
Explorer shows you a virtual, not actual, view of things. You can't believe your eyes.
The second set of commands test certain things looking at your disk through a real or actual view of things. This will allow diagnosis of which mechanism out of a only a few is causing it.
It could be caused by you moving one hidden file from Desktop folder to User folder. Or by you dragging the desktop folder.
We need to find the cause so we can fix it completely rather than partially.

2013-08-17T03:32:43+00:00 Hopefully you mean your desktop folder not the documents folder as your first post says the desktop folder. This is geared to the desktop folder.
The commands will be slightly different if it's your documents folder. Although if it is Documents you can probably easily fix it yourself by right clicking the Documents folder - Properties - Location tab.
In Vista the Desktop folder also has the tab.
However you indicated your problem may be more complicated than this as you implied in your first post your user profile folder has become a sub folder of the desktop (rather than the other way round).

2013-08-17T02:44:32+00:00 Okay, a lot of things going on here so it might be a day before I can do this. To clarify, I'm doing this to be able to restore the mess I made of my documents folder, correct? I'm not clear after reading all of this that that will be the case.
