Oops it tuesday night. Not monday.

I'm in Australia so don't expect our hours to coincide. It's 5:50pm monday on a cold winter's night (after a mostly very warm winter).

The registry is correct. To see what it means type set in a command prompt and look up userprofile (which will say c:\users\ceil). Replace %userprofile% with c:\users\ceil. So %USERPROFILE%\Desktop becomes c:\users\ceil\Desktop.

Has the location tab moved to the C:\Users\Ceil\Desktop folder? If so delete C:\Users\Ceil\Searches\Desktop.

Has your profile folder reverted to it's correct name or is it still showing the desktop display name.

What are the other issues?

To check your other folders type

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

Everything should start %userprofile% and point somewhere sensible. Although many will have long paths into the AppData folder. Here's mine (ignore contacts - I moved it in testing).

Not sure if you're still there. 

Today I tried to delete a file from the now current desktop that I didn't want and was told it wasn't at that location.  I finally found it and deleted it but the icon was not deleted from my desktop so I refreshed the desktop and all of the folders and most items went away.  I then went to the Search file to look at the desktop items there, and copied and pasted them right onto the desktop.  They are now in: C:\Users\Ceil\Desktop.  There is still something in the Searches folder named "Desktop" but it is now empty.  There are still problems with some strange things in folders but things seem more "normal".

 I did the reg query that you requested in a previous post and now have:
