Windows Store apps not downloading, forever stuck and 'Pending'

Windows Store apps won't download, I've tried to download numerous apps but it never passes 'Pending'. Please help!

This:

  1. Open an administrative command prompt
  2. Type the following four commands:
  3. net stop wuauserv

cd %systemroot%

ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

net start wuauserv 4. Try to install updates again.

and this:

a)Right Click the Start screen (bottom left hand corner)

b)Click "Run"

c)Type: "WSReset.exe" and hit enter

was solving my issue.

This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  1. If the Windows Update database is corrupted.
  2. If the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service does not receive a content link header.
  3. If a required system file is registered incorrectly.

    after trying all these steps still it comes error code0x80240440

    Hello Marcus and everyone! I just found the solution for this problem. Many times I could solve this by renaming SoftwareDistribution but the problem kept coming back and eventually the fix stopped working. After many months I realized that it could be related to the fact that windows identifies my main internet connection as a "metered connection" for some reason, but I didn't realize you could change that. Once I did it the problem was totally solved. If that's the case with you or anyone in the forum this is the way to fix it:

    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

    (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.) 2. Tap or click Network, and then tap or click Connections. 3. Tap or click the connection you want to change, and then, under Data usage, turn Set as a metered connection off.
