Windows Store apps not downloading, forever stuck and 'Pending'

Windows Store apps won't download, I've tried to download numerous apps but it never passes 'Pending'. Please help!

This:

  1. Open an administrative command prompt
  2. Type the following four commands:
  3. net stop wuauserv

cd %systemroot%

ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

net start wuauserv 4. Try to install updates again.

and this:

a)Right Click the Start screen (bottom left hand corner)

b)Click "Run"

c)Type: "WSReset.exe" and hit enter

was solving my issue.

This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  1. If the Windows Update database is corrupted.
  2. If the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) service does not receive a content link header.
  3. If a required system file is registered incorrectly.

Please follow the below steps and check if it helps:

    Thanks Emkay 1001.  But the fixits did not help.  This is the message I received:

    Problem with BITS service : The requested service has already been started. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182. 

    Any further ideas?  I did look up HELPMSG 2182 but it just said to wait until processes are finished.  I've been waiting weeks now, so I don't think that is the problem.

    I am having the same issue.  I suspect that Mr. Stick's solution will be helpful to IT professionals.  However, for the mere users among us it is not something I would care to try.  I think that Microsoft needs to provide software that actually works as it is supposed to, and not ask us to spend hours running the risk of messing up the whole system.

    Please check if automated "Fix Its" from Microsoft help to solve the problem:

    You do need to have an administrator privileges on your computer (by default you do). I would also recommend rebooting the system before running the "Fix Its".
