Windows 7 - Windows update stuck at 0kb 0%

"I have windows 7, and for the past few months I am unable to update windows.

Windows update is stuck at downloading 0kb".

"What I did, that in my case worked,

I Used MSConfig, disabled all the non microsoft services, restarted. Restart a Windows Update, and it worked. Look to simple, but hey, no comment.

Start - Run

Type : MSConfig<enter>

System configuration window appear

click on Services tab - look at the bottom of the box and mark Hide all Microsoft services

Then click Disable All - That will disable every services listed

Apply the change - and Restart

Once logged back in, Do a Windows Update...

After the updates has been applied - Redo the MSConfig procedure to enable everything on your system

Hi all!

This was very helpful. At first I was sceptical because, I had the task manager running to monitor the network activity and very little happened. No progress registered for about 15-20 minutes, all I could see was 0% downloaded. After about 25-30 minutes, it displayed 77% downloaded, I couldn't believe it! Persevere my friends, this is a fix for sure!! Remember to REDO the MSConfig afterwards, as Andre says!

Thank you.  This appears to have allowed me to start getting updates again, but the weird thing is I still have the same old 7 updates (and 2 optional updates) from before and they STILL won't work.  Does anyone know how I can clear them from my 'queue' so that Windows stops telling me I have these updates?  They obviously won't ever download and install, so why have them cluttering up my updates list.

this may seem like a stupid question. But is your comp clock time accurate?  If its off then that tells the server your location and info don't match server time

Fixed

Step 1:

Disable Windows Update:

Control Panel --> Windows Update --> Change Settings --> "Never Check for Updates"

Step 2:

Restart

Step 3:

Go here, download and install the following:

1. System Update Rediness Tool for Windows 7
2. Update for Windows 7

Step 4:

Restart

Step 5:

Manually run Windows Update and wait like 10 min and you should be good (hopefully).

Also check out the Automatic configuration at the top section of the Local Area Network LAN) Settings.  I followed the steps above and it didn't correct the problem.  I then did Microsoft's steps and ended up going back to a restore point.  At that time, I was unable to connect to my router and I got the error regarding an unknown proxy.  I went back in and my setting was "Use automatic configuration script" with a link to Kodak's website.  I changed it to "Automatically detect settings" and now I'm able to get online.  Still haven't solved the update problem as now I'm stuck "Checking for updates."
