In the last 24hrs I have been unable to open a new email or reply to anything I have received. When I click on  new message, or try to reply to one I get the following from Live drive " A problem has occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again."  I am receiving everything perfectly well and the problem? seems to be in my computer not with the server as it won't even let me open anything let alone send anything. Any answers for this one?  I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it but to no avail! I have run an AV scan and done some maintainence. Everything else seems to be working fine. This has only happened in the last 24 hours.

    Thanks Noel, good so far... In #4, you say: " Type the name of your normal Windows user account into the Enter the object name... box and click Check names. The official name of the account should appear in the format {computer name}{username}."

    This 'names' thing is confusing. If I'm the only user of this computer, I see the default names as:

    Administrators (User-PC\Administrators)

    User (User-PC\User)

    So which one of those is the name of my 'normal Windows user accou nt'? (they both have the word 'user' in them). Or is the name something else that I should add, such as my first & last name? And what is the computer name that you reference above?

    On the Enter the object name... box, I clicked on examples, which is also confusing.

    So what do I type in that box?

    Sorry I missed this reply when I responded to GrampaD.

    C:\Users{user}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail*where {user} is the Windows user having the problem.*****

    Sorry about that. {user} is the name of your Windows user account folder. Try this instead:

    Copy the text in the box (e.g. highlight it with your mouse and then press Ctrl-C)

    "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail"

    Press Windows key  + R, press Ctrl-V and Enter. This should get you to the same place as step 2 in my post.

    This solution has been tried an found to be ineffective.

    Can you point to a thread where the user has reported back that it didn't work? I couldn't find one.

    So is there a solution that works? Isn't it possible to just reverse the CMD exe -- esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Mail.MSMessageStore"  ?
