Cannot turn off 'automatically connect' option on WIFI connections

This I think is either really strange or normal.

I have windows 8 on my notebook and an Inter Centrino N-2230 wireless adapter.

Recently, all WIFI connections that appear as available have the 'connect automatically' option checked. I uncheck the box, but they automatically get checked again.  I am sure that previously, all wifi connections had the box unchecked by default.

However this is NOT the case with the one wifi connection I primarily use, ie my home cable connection. I can uncheck the option for this one and it stays unchecked. Bizarre.

I am a bit concerned that if I use my notebook near an unsecured connection, it will automatically connect to this without my knowing resulting in security concerns.

Any idea if this is an issue, and how to resolve it?

I assume that all of the trouble machines that are automatically connecting are using Intel PROSet Wireless Tools.  Simple fix.

Goto the Control Panel.  

Type Wireless in the search panel.

If Intel PROSet Wireless Tools is an option click it (if not then you may have another issue)

Under the option Intel Wifi HotSpot Assistant click Settings

Uncheck Automatically Connect to free WiFi Hotspots.  

Click Close 

Your DONE!

Problem Solved Unless you are not using Intel PROSet Wireless Tools.

    sir,

    I purchased a dell laptop. some time before the wireless network was operated but now it is off. I was go to setting & check aeroplan  switch. The switch is already off but internet connecting menu is also shown off. why I connect wi-fi connection..

    Having the exact same issue;

    I've wiped all the memorized networks through the command prompt; deleted them from where they're stored in my C:; and still my computer has ticked off every network as "Connect Automatically"

    How can I connect automatically to a network I've never connected to?

    How can I connect automatically to a network that I have no profile stored on my computer for?

    The only way to fix this is to completely disable the ability to automatically connect to any network because I've tried everything and I CAN'T fix this.

    It strikes me that there is no fix.... however, and not to divert attention...

    Is this a "system load issue" unique to certain brands, or an OS issue?

    Can everyone answer these two questions?

    1. what is you machine make and model
    2. have you "clean installed" the OS?

    If the issue is limited to certain brands - factory or oem loads, then Microsoft will probably say - you need to seek support from your supplier, as it is a config issue, not an inherent OS issue.

    Annoying, but this may be the case...

    I'm running

    Lenovo t430s - original factory pre-load.
