Rogue devices showing up on windows 8 network in file exporer.

Hi everyone,

When I connect to my wireless network (very secure and complex WPA2 password), I go to File Explorer and the click on the "Network" at the bottom left of the window.  There continues to be a wireless device or phone that shows detected on the network.  I have seen three different devices and mac addresses since logging on this morning.  I have also checked the router and there is no record of these mac id's or devices on the router.  Where would these be coming from?  This doesn't show on my Windows 7 machines.  And also, I do not own any of these phones that are appearing on the network.  Any help would be appreciated.

    "Nerd Squad" might be an overstatement, but in my view, and that of
    lots of others of us here, the Geek Squad is not a good place to go
    for advice or service. They, and all other big box stores, should be
    avoided.

    I see phones that I don't recognize on my network also.   Up to three.  BestBuy Nerd Squad says they will charge 200 dollars to rid my computer of any unwanted junk.

    i got a fix for phone showing in windows 8.1 before you check your network it is phone it showing in Network  go control panel then Administrative tool then services then look for  windows connect now right click on it  go to Properties then startup select disabled and click on apply then stop and ok and see your network you will not see a phone 

    Can you tell me the exact service name please? I have 2 choices in Services - "Windows Connect Now - Config registrar" and "Windows Connection Manager".  Thanks.

    I know it's an old thread, but this works. Also you can deactivate WPS on your router.

    I checked my router's firewall logs, started wireshark and didn't see any traffic coming from the two rogue devices sitting on my network neighbourhood. I'm guessing people just try to connect with WPS onto my router, or their phones are.

    Same problem on me! I run Windows 8.1 but did not notice this issue till I changed my wireless router into a Netgear R6300V2 with 2,4 GHz and 5GHz support.

    It is quite annoying, if I keep reluctant to become paranoic, to see "unknown devices" being showed continuesly on my network devices...
