Original title: windows mail on W8 to windows live mail?

I hate the mail program on my new laptop, Windows 8.  How can I change the email program to Windows Live Mail as I use with Windows 7?

  2. Are you trying to use Windows Live mail instead of mail app?

    This still doesn't help with the original issue - using the previous Windows Live instead of the horrible Mail.

    I found Windows Live Mail on the internet, downloaded to my laptop then deleted the Essential program.  Much better!  I didn't find any valid help from MS, as well.

    Thank you. I'll try that.  Ganesh and the other guy from Microsoft seem incredibly dense.  They keep trying to steer us back to the horrible new version of mail in essentials.  It is incredibly horrible, especially the people or contacts area in which it is impossible to search on anything at all in the application and in the ad driven internet version, only on the name, not on any of the other fields. 

    Unreal how out of touch Microsoft is, uncaring - they couldn't be that stupid.

    That really depends on the email.  AOL has a web based program, but also pop3 still, I believe.  If it were Pop3 and you already downloaded the emails without keeping a copy on the server, then, yes, if you don't remember the password and cannot recover it (which is odd), then they would be lost.  

    If it is a web-based email than you will be much more likely to get the emails back as they are stored on the server until you physically delete them.  I would suggest googling your email program (AOL) and looking for answers that way (or calling).

    I don't have enough details from you to walk you through the steps.

    My other computer is a laptop with windows 8.1  I forgot the password for that computer's AOL e-mail.  now I can't open e-mail, nor find address book, or contacts page.  How can I recover the "contacts"  page?  And see the messages I have received in the last few days.  Or is that stuff lost forever?
