Lumia 1020 Camera Won't Hold Focus

When using my 1020, I hold the shutter button halfway down to let it autofocus. It proceeds to do so briefly, but as I push the button, it loses focus and results in blurry photos. The manual focus does a little better. If I tap to focus, I can usually get the focus I want after 10 or so tries. This issue comes up at any focal distance.

Is the camera broken?

Thanks.

My husband bought me the Lumia 1020 as an anniversary gift ❤️ since he knows I love taking pictures.  I looked forward in replacing my regular point and shoot camera with this as he also got me the camera case for the 1020.  👍

I am experiencing the same focusing problem.  Especially with the Macro/Close-up settings.  It has rendered any apps that require a QR scanner/barcode scanner and banking apps that allow you to take a picture of your cheque for deposit, all completely useless with this camera.  Please tell me that it is simply a bug and that Nokia will rectify this well known problem with the camera.

My husband and I have been Nokia fans since the Lumia 800.  Since then we have continued to purchase the Lumia line for our household, which included 900s, 920s and now the 1020.  We have resorted to 'send in the phone' many times with multiple issues.  And it is not only our household that is a fan of the Lumia line, we have also convinced our extended family to also buy into the Lumias.

If Nokia is looking into this wide spread problem with the camera, please let me know, as it gives me hope that Nokia cares about the MAIN feature of of the 1020.  Otherwise, this is the last straw, and we and the rest of our family will be dropping Nokia and look to build our customer loyalty with Samsung.

Autofocus works properly when the phone is held horizontally. It seems that there is mechanical failure. What do I do with my phone? Should I return the phone to the retailer or has Nokia a fix for this problem?

Same problem with my Lumia 1020. Is this a hardware or a software malfunction? Can it be fixed? So far Lumia 1020 has been a disappointment - it was because of the the camera and auto focus I bought it!

:smileyfrustrated:I unpacked my phone yesterday and have the same issues at the first post. I checked for updates and read the manual on the camera.. Seems that the focus is just not working.
