Type 1 font handling messed up by December 11, 2012 update KB2753842

Programs like Quark Xpress and Coreldraw on Windows 7 and XP have their Type 1 font handling broken by this patch. Characters larger than 15 pt. become invisible. Uninstalling the patch removes the problem. We have 330 machines with this problem. Is Microsoft getting ready to release a fix for this?

Why was this bulletin rereleased on December 20, 2012? ****Microsoft rereleased this bulletin to address a known issue in the KB2753842 update related to OpenType Fonts (OTF) not properly rendering in applications after the original update was applied. Customers who have successfully installed the original KB2753842 update are protected from the vulnerability described in CVE-2012-2556. However, customers need to install the rereleased KB2753842 update to resolve the issue with improper OpenType font rendering and to keep the affected binaries up to date.

    MS will fix it, I'm sure you can count on that.  

    It's not just those "other" apps that are getting whacked by this update, so are Office apps.

    And keep in mind, folks, the only blame you've seen cast on other programs comes from a hired tech-support "engineer".  IOW, somebody's quoting from a very general purpose script they've been trained to apply in response to certain triggers.  You're not getting an official MS policy response to this specific problem.

    Yes, it's a big problem.  HUGE for many of us.  But there *is* a workaround, a fairly simple and completely effective one.

    And perhaps there's a lesson here to IT departments that automatically install everything MS pushes out the door.  It might be wise to give it a day or two, wait for explosions here and elsewhere on the interwebs, and install 'em only if things stay quiet. ;-)

    This is great for people who haven't updated yet. However, my team has. I, for one, cannot seem to remove this update, even by backing my machine system restore point to last Friday (Dec. 7)!!!

    This also affects Avid Marquee titling tool for video editing.  Did not seem to affect the standard Title Tool, tho, in Avid Media Composer.
