Type 1 font handling messed up by December 11, 2012 update KB2753842

Programs like Quark Xpress and Coreldraw on Windows 7 and XP have their Type 1 font handling broken by this patch. Characters larger than 15 pt. become invisible. Uninstalling the patch removes the problem. We have 330 machines with this problem. Is Microsoft getting ready to release a fix for this?

Why was this bulletin rereleased on December 20, 2012? ****Microsoft rereleased this bulletin to address a known issue in the KB2753842 update related to OpenType Fonts (OTF) not properly rendering in applications after the original update was applied. Customers who have successfully installed the original KB2753842 update are protected from the vulnerability described in CVE-2012-2556. However, customers need to install the rereleased KB2753842 update to resolve the issue with improper OpenType font rendering and to keep the affected binaries up to date.

    I'm experiencing the exact same problem using Adobe Flash CS6.  Certain fonts I was using are still listing in the application, I can still create text boxes using those fonts, but they are invisible.  Uninstalling security update KB2753842 resolves the problem. 

    My problem is that the corporation I work for locks out my ability to disable or hide this update from running every day at noon, so I have to uninstall it EVERY DAY to keep working on my current project that requires specific fonts. 

    I too, lost a full day of productivity just trying to figure out the source of the problem, and have a large, deadline driven project due by year end.  Thanks, Microsoft.

    Powerpoint is also affected.

    In this case, I guess we should blame the "program developer" as well?

    This needs to be fixed ASAP. Made tons of our expensive fonts totally unusable! 

    EDIT: Corel response:

    We take this issue very seriously here at Corel. **I looked into it and found out that is is indeed a Microsoft problem : not ours.**Other application have similar problems, not just CorelDRAW.

    The problem is with a windows API called GetGlyphOutline(). (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd144891(v=vs.85).aspx) For certain fonts like those mentionned here, it fails to return us the memory size we need to extract a character's glyph's curves.

    That means that any application trying to convert character to curves will fail. CorelDRAW requires that to display text object in enhanced view mode. Other view modes might still work. Convert to curve will also fail and the bounding box calculation of artistic text object will not work as well.

    We will notify Microsoft about this.

    Uninstall the update and just hang tight.  Let's see if we can get a better solution for everyone rather than "hide the update".
