usb flash drive not a valid backup location for system image

Try this:

• create a directory on your USB drive
• right-click the directory and choose "Share with", "Specific people"
• choose yourself from the list of users and click Share and Done
• in the "Create System Image" menu choose "On a network location"
• now enter the URL for your share (\your-computer\sharename)
• enter your username and password and click OK

I appreciate your reply but I have 64gb flash drive and my system image is only approx. 16gb ,as I knew before getting that size flash drive.

Is it possible to place the flash drive as part of home network and then proceed to backup to that location.

**b.**Press Windows key + X on the desktop and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Windows 7 Backup and Restore did not allow USB flash drives to be used for System Image back up. Windows 7 File Recovery, in Windows 8, works the same way that Windows 7 Backup and Restore does. We recommend you to create the system Image in an external hard disk or a separate partition in the internal hard disk.

Saving a System Image in a USB drive is not recommended. The size of the System Image could be bigger than the size of the USB drive and since the drive size is usually small, it tends to fill up quickly, especially when creating the System Images is scheduled to occur at a particular time.

You guys are going about this the most complicating way possible! No, you are not missing something it's just that MS changed how to make your system file image. Instead of doing it the old way we are used to with a USB, or this long, confusing way of sending it to yourself, you simply need to do this:

1. Type CREATE A RECOVERY DRIVE into the search box (in Windows 8 or 10) and select it. Confirm your choice, or enter admin. password if necessary.
2. When the tool opens be sure that BACK UP SYSTEM FILES TO THE RECOVERY DRIVE is selected, then select NEXT.
3. Connect your USB, select it, then select NEXT > CREATE.
4. When it is done, you will see an option to "Delete the Recovery Partition." If you want to free up drive space on your PC choose this and Delete. If not, select Finish.

This recovery partition is the reason you cannot create the system image on your USB the way you are all trying. Just do this simple thing to create your system image and be sure your USB is large enough! See the link if you need more help:
