So I have only experienced the big battery once and it was because my device was totally drained. I charged it for quite a while then it got enough power to run and complete the update.
I'm not sure what to suggest but if the battery icon goes away and then the phone seems to get stuck on the Nokia logo and it never progresses beyond that after sufficient time where you are sure it is stuck, I might try performing a 3 button hard reset with the AC cord plugged in. So lets try that and see if it helps.
