Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    YUP!  Last week I just hung up.  Today, I received another call.  I followed the India woman's advice until another guy came on so I could download the AMMYY.  I WAS VERY LEERY from the beginning, but NOW I'm getting scared!!!  I told him I have to ask my hubby (TOTALLY NOT computer!) but called Radio Shack.  I was informed it was a scam and shouldn't worry because I didn't download.  If I had, my computer would've been RUINED and would've had to have Windows re-downloaded.  In the meantime, my phone was clicking to beat the band!  I finally answered after disconnecting from RS, and told the guy he was a scammer.  He was VERY indignant.  I just hung up, warned people on FB, and will report this call to my phone company and "NO ALL" list.

    They called me too and I told them to call me on a different phone and gave them the FBI headquarters number hahaha!!!

    Unfortunately I am one of the few that ran the AMMYY program, it then gets a little bit different for me. I was then directed to go to WWW.windowsfirewall.weebly and select what firewall protection subscription I wanted, it took me up until this point to catch on, told them that I needed to discuss the options with my wife due to the expense as such the supervisor agreed to call me back the following day, in the meant time I noticed my mouse cursor moving and a CCleaner program had been installed (do not know if anything else has been installed) Currently working with Microsoft and Trend to check and clean my PC. I just got a returned call from the same person from the night before while typing this reply. Now knowing a lot more about the scam I informed her that I spoke to my local country Microsoft support and that they informed me that nobody from Microsoft had contacted me nor would they know how to unless I had requested Microsoft to contact me. she then asks if I wanted to continue with purchasing a subscription before I could finish my comment about what I thought of her illegal practices the line was disconnected.

    Hopefully other people learn from my mistake.
