Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    You're not moronic!

    This is a scam, to try & find your bank account details, log-ons, etc. 

    You did the right thing by shutting down your PC.

    He did not have long enough to see anything useful in 5 seconds, so do not worry.

    He may phone again; if he does, try a nice loud whistle down the line, & suggest he go forth & muliply!

    Only talk to him if you want to beat my record of wasting 32 mins of his day!  You can get a good start by telling him you need to get the laptop from your car, and putting him on hold for 5 minutes! Then tell him you have to find the power supply, that will waste another 5 minutes!

    You take it from there, but do NOT log on to his www.ammyy website.

    Whilst typing this, the same guy just phoned again, telling me he was not going to charge me for fixing all these so called infections! What audacity! 

    More like he was not going to charge me for stealing my bank details! I.D. theft more like!

    This IS a scam..... Event Viewer logs WILL show errors, which build up over time. Most errors are neglible.

    If you really are worried that your computer is getting slow, use ccleaner.com & eusing.com's free registry cleaner,, or better yet, save all your documents folder to another hard drive, then restore your PC to it's original factory settings, & run Windows update!

    Try google-binging for Troy Hunt Cold Call Scam. He uploaded a video where he kept them on the phone for over 50 minutes. It's hilarious. Not sure if I can post urls here, but here goes:

    Also, be fair - this is not "his" www.ammyy web site. They're actually a legitimate company selling remote access software and have just been unlucky enough to have been targeted by the scammers.

    Great that everyone is now more aware and responding to this scam.

    Brilliant that you wasted their time for 32 minutes, I only managed 20 as caught off guard but suspicious, but got them to call me back for another 45 minutes. ( He told me to p'ss 0ff)

    "What is wrong with you people" he shouted when I told him I was UK security.

    And they may still be calling me as phone has messaging service and traceable. Missed one call but heard call centre in background..

    Looking forward to more phone calls from "Justin" and running up their phone bill :-)
