Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Sorry mate but Norton Sucks that's what was on my husbands computer and I had to take it into the shop in the end. Got in contact with what I thought was the "Legit Norton Site" by phone then all **** broke loose as soon as I gave permission to "remote connect" to the pc. As for Doc and the AMMY Scam. Is it really necessary to insult general users who are just asking what can we DO to solve it? If anyone has any real answers out there to circumvent this would appreciate it. As I do not want to wipe the lot and start again.

    I'm not sure what you're asking about, but if you want to make sure ... I mean REALLY sure your PC is not running anything harmful to the PC or to you, do what I describe below.

    First... if you have access to more than 1 PC that's the best... unplug the questionable one from the internet and do any communication from the 2nd machine.

    Go to the forums at "What The Tech":

    Then read the instructions under "Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal.

    You'll need to make yourself a login, and follow directions, but when you come out the other side, your PC will be guaranteed clean, and they'll give you good information for making sure it stays that way.

    It may take a few days... they're busy... but they know what they're doing. I've used them maybe 4 times now.

    I had the same attempted scam on 6th June 2014. in the U.K.

    The phone no. I got back on recall service was 009999912352

    The guy used the same name as in previous post's.

    When I told him I was a police officer in the U.K. and the phone call was being recorded he got very abusive. Microsoft, the FBI and Fraud squad U.K. should now be treating this as a major Security Alert.

    I have reported it via my local police but heard nothing back.

    I see today that Ammmy have issued a disclaimer.

    If anyone calls you saying they are from Microsoft hang up  as they never do this.

    Or lead them on, have fun with wasting their time as long as you don't download the software they can't get control of your comp.
