Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Where did you get the Tech support number? From Google's site?

    Even with legit BPOs connected to a company, the rep will often offer excessive fees for an unneeded product or support service (usually by term - one-time, monthly, yearly).

    And uh, I don't see the need for him to access your computer. As your web mail account is remote - not on your compter. If he is really from Google, he should have access to your account in the first place!

    Yeah he said i eas like 200$!

    And the access to my computer really worries me I hope he can't do it wothout me knowin

    Hi Stephen. I looked up a Google Tech Support number and i asked them to help me with access to my gmail account. (I understand that this is google but the fact that it is is irrelevant). So i did what the guy said and i believed them because i am the one who called, he had an indian accent too i should've been more suspicious but i was just scared of access to my gmail account at that point. I did what the guy said and gave him access to my computer he almost made me buy some software but i said if i wanted it i would call back. Did he steal my identity? The next day i bought Norton With Identity Theft protection just incase and my mom is making sure the credit card and bank statements are normal. Please respond fast i am really nervous about this. By the way this was like a month ago. 

    You called them and you purchased their service.

    It is not likely that you have an issue. Many legitimate services need access to your PC to provide help.
