Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    They are still at it. I got a 'private' call indirectly through ctrl R directing me to go to ammyy website so I could get rid of the viruses and malware on my computer. I asked was he from Microsoft but he said he was working with them. When I asked how he knew I had problems he passed me on to a higher techie. When I asked another question I was passed on to someone else. I was suspicious from the beginning but when I saw the website it directed me to would allow them to take control of my computer, I told him I absolutely not. He hung up.

    I googled ammyy and found this.

    I just took them up to the point where they ask me to attach my system to www.infosis.net then told them my system froze and I needed to reboot. I told them to wait while I reboot. I told them I had to go to the bathroom while the system rebooted and that I'd be right back. I then put the phone down and picked it up 5 minutes later lol the joker was still there. I then told him I was ready but needed his direction to get back to where we were. when we arrived at putting in the address I told him my system locked again and thought it must be the virus that infected my computer. I asked him what I should do? :) He told me to try rebooting once more. This time after the process I told him that I was able to to put in infosis.net but told him I wanted the firms name and address and website address. I told me the company was not authorized to release that information. LOL and i told him I would proceed if he was willing to listen to my **** fantasies LOL. He hung up :)

    Dear All.

    Thanks for posting this blog.  

    I have just been called by a similar Indian guy who at first sounded very plausible but like everybody else I have and run on a regular basis Anti Virus Software.  

    I had my concerns from the start and when he asked me to access WWW.AMMYY.COM I immediately checked Google and saw this page and read through quickly.  It would appear that I was also open to this scam and luckily for me I was able to tell the guy that this was a scam and to "Foxtrot Oscar"!!

    So please, if anybody else gets called by somebody purporting to be from Microsoft, tell them you are not interested, hang up and don't get conned into letting anybody loose on your PC unless you know who they are!!!!
