Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Same here, got a call today(27Aug2013), claiming from Windows support (they said, not from Microsoft, but they are partner to Microsoft), talked for a long time, with the options like 'Windows+R', then www.ammyy.com site, etc. To verify the computer id, (clsId) went to cmd prompt --> assoc showing the clsid. He readout the clsid, which matched mine. I guess, that number is not unique, it is the same number for every computer. After installing the software from ammyy.com website, before accepting the Remote Desktop connect option, I was 100% suspicious. I said, I'll call you back after running my Norton Anti virus full scan. They said, no anti virus can fix the issue, only their technician can show you and solve the problem.  I did the google search, first link was the ammyy.com scam.. the scam page is even given on ammyy.com website which is legit software, these people are making use of it to do their hacks. The person left me the phone number, listing it here, in case someone also got from the same office.  510-922-6000. Also the direct number : 253-397-1687 x:101. If you got a call from these numbers, beware you are being trapped, hangup the call before they get you further.

    I just had a cold call from apparently Microsoft support and this exact thing happened

    As soon as they directed me to a website I did a quick Google search and found this site. Then politely said goodbye.

    I had phone call this morning from a lady with Indian accent, advising me that they recognizied my computer had been attack several times by hackers.

    Asked I run several test and they said yes all the warnings are due to hackers trying to get into my computer.

    When advised to run Ammvy.com and I read a little of the description I immediatly said NO thank you and hung up.

    After going into Google I realized this is a scam..
