Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Ha I just got a call from these guys, the moment i heard the Indian accent I was suspicious, but didn't want to impulsively racially profile so I went along with it. Not only did they switch technicians [which further raised suspicion] to someone even more difficult to understand, but they as well tried to get me to run www.ammyy.com. The moment the website came up and they insisted I download their software, I was positive that this was a joke (scam). I told them to hold on, that I wanted to verify their credibility and they tried to direct me to their "certificate". I just ignored them and did some research and found multiple indications of fraud here and from other sources. I read some of the replies and insisted that I wanted to record the conversation from here on. (With no intentions of doing so) To which the "technician" replied "Who told you? Who told you?!?" I laughed at him and said no one told me, I know how to use google and I'm not stupid and then hung up. :]

    Same thing happened to me tonight.  I was suspicious, so she told me she would give me my Windows I'd number.  I looked it up and she gave me the numbers...I didn't give them to her, so she did have my numbers correct. Then she had me run eventviewer...same story as above.  She told me because I had so many errors, it meant my computer was seriously infected with a trojan virus, to hang on because the problem was so serious, I must speak with the supervisor.  The guy came on and he seemed seriously concerned and wanted me to Run www.ammyy.com in the Command box so they could access my computer and clean it up right away.  I knew better so I played stupid. I told him I wanted to be sure I followed his directions properly and was going to record the conversation.  He hung up.  These people are very convincing.  Question is:  How did they have my Windows id and my unlisted telephone #?
